In Florbs File Security for Google Drive, when you see external domains that have access to your organization’s files, you have two main options to remove that access:

  1. Remove link sharing

    • This means that if any files or folders are shared via a link ("Anyone in the domain with the link"), the link will not be active any longer.

    • When we talk about sharing with link, this is what we mean:

  1. Remove sharing with users and groups

    • If someone in your organization explicitly shared a file or folder with users or groups in an external domain (e.g., john@competitorcompany.com), that access will be revoked.

    • When we talk about sharing with users and groups, this is what we mean:

Key Difference:

  • Removing link sharing stops users from accessing files via shared links.

  • Removing sharing with users/groups directly removes specific people or groups from the file’s permissions.

⚠️ Important:

❗️ A file can be shared via a link AND with individual users or groups at the same time - please see the screenshots above for an example.

❗️If you need to completely lock down all access from a specific domain, you will need to remove both types of sharing!
