How to remove sharing with a specific domain

This article explains the difference between link sharing and sharing with users and groups.

In Florbs File Security for Google Drive, when you see external domains that have access to your organization’s files, you have two main options to remove that access:

  1. Remove link sharing

    • This means that if any files or folders are shared via a link ("Anyone in the domain with the link"), the link will not be active any longer.

    • When we talk about sharing with link, this is what we mean:

  1. Remove sharing with users and groups

    • If someone in your organization explicitly shared a file or folder with users or groups in an external domain (e.g., john@competitorcompany.com), that access will be revoked.

    • When we talk about sharing with users and groups, this is what we mean:

Key Difference:

  • Removing link sharing stops users from accessing files via shared links.

  • Removing sharing with users/groups directly removes specific people or groups from the file’s permissions.

⚠️ Important:

❗️ A file can be shared via a link AND with individual users or groups at the same time - please see the screenshots above for an example.


❗️If you need to completely lock down all access from a specific domain, you will need to remove both types of sharing!
